The Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD) Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) consists of parents of students with special needs. We advise the WISD concerning the planning and implementation of special education programs and services. We work to ensure student success by strengthening the capacities of our local schools, families and communities through collaboration, use of best practices, technology, and a wide variety of strategies.  The Parent Advisory Committee is mandated by Michigan law. It is our responsibility to review and provide input on the WISD's special education plan.

The Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD) Parent Advisory Committee (PAC), in partnership with families, the WISD, local public school agencies, and communities, will facilitate the education of all students to ensure that they maximize their potential and become contributing members of society, living, working, and participating in their communities.

Most parents feel overwhelmed at some point in their journey through the special education system. We want to remind parents that they are the best advocates for their children. The importance of parent input and involvement in a student's education is emphasized by both Federal Law IDEA and Michigan's Rules for Special Education.  We are happy to share our experience and help parents trying to find their way through the special education maze. We welcome questions and concerns, and refer parents to appropriate administrators, school personnel, and support groups.

Each school district in the WISD has the opportunity to appoint 2 representatives to serve on the WISD PAC.  Our representatives have children with disabilities who are enrolled in the district they represent, kindergarten through the Young Adult program (age 26), and receive special education services through that district.  PAC representatives serve families with students with special needs in their home district by educating, supporting, and referring families to resources. PAC is always looking to improve education by seeking representatives from all districts in the WISD and our meetings are open to the public.
