WISD Hosts Braille Story Walk for Community
The Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD), in partnership with the Ann Arbor District Library (AADL), unveiled a Braille Enhanced Story Walk on its main campus at 1819 S. Wagner Rd., Ann Arbor, MI, and invites the community to engage with the interactive story.
“I am excited to be part of this collaboration with AADL to host an Enhanced Story Walk, which promotes literacy in accessible formats, including braille,” shared Becky Starick, Accessible Media Specialist in the WISD Visual Impairments department and Library of Congress Literary Braille Transcriber. “Story walks combine reading, walking, and being part of our environment and they make learning fun and engaging.”
The story walk features Lori Degman’s book, Just Read!, which celebrates reading and encourages children to read anywhere they can. The book also highlights and raises awareness of accessible literacy formats such as braille and sign language.
Staff from the WISD and AADL will be available for special events related to the Story Walk:
