Young Adult Outcenters

The ultimate mission of the Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD), Special Education young Adult Out-Center Program sis the successful transition of all students from school to post-school activities - whether postsecondary education, vocational training, integrated employment, continuing and adult education, adult services, independent living or community participation.

Our vision is to provide instruction and training in adult living skills through real life community experiences that enhances each student's potential to be as independent as possible in their home, with personal safety & care skills, in a career, in relationships, as a contributing citizen, and as an active member in their community. 

A portrait of our student learners consists of but not limited to the following, leading to happy, healthy, and safe lives...

-Independently attends to personal needs and navigates the environment with minimal to no support.

-Able to perform home chores and responsibilities.

-Exercises appropriate social skills and behaviors with minimal to no support leading to safe and healthy relationships and opportunities.

-Demonstrates good work skills, habits and attitudes while working with minimal to no support for a time period between 2-6 hours. 

-Demonstrates skills and a willingness to sustain healthy nutrition and fitness skills and habits. 

-Able to safely navigate their community while walking, biking or using public transportation.

-Communicates effectively and demonstrates self-advocacy skills.

-Possesses good problem-solving skills.

-Active in adult community social activities, events and clubs.

-Is connected and understands adult community support services.
